Sports nutrition brand USN joins ESSNA in critical moment for the sector

The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) has further expanded its membership, with USN, a leading international sports nutrition brand, joining the association. ESSNA works to unite the industry under the umbrella of the organisation, as the Alliance is looking at securing fair European legislation for the sector based on members’ priorities.

Stacey Chapman, Sales Support Executive at USN, said the company “is proud to partner with ESSNA, a key advocate for a strong yet progressive regulatory environment in the sports nutrition sector”. “Our shared commitment to quality, innovation, and education ensures we continue to lead the industry, delivering safe, effective, and cutting-edge nutrition solutions to consumers”, Chapman added.

Luca Bucchini, Chair of ESSNA, said the body “is excited to welcome USN on board, as the Alliance continues to grow and go from strength to strength”. He said USN joins ESSNA in a critical moment for the industry, “as policy and regulatory developments of crucial significance are currently taking place in Europe”.

Following the publication of the European Commission’s work programme for its 2024 – 2029 mandate, on 19th February, the EU’s executive body will be launching its Vision for Agriculture and Food. The initiative will be focusing on ensuring long-term competitiveness and sustainability in the EU’s farming and food sector. “It is a blueprint that will lay the groundwork for the direction of European food policy over the next five years and beyond”, Bucchini said.

According to the Chair of ESSNA, “the need to ensure fit-for-purpose regulations for sports foods in Europe is more urgent than ever, following other important developments as well”. These include the expected review of rules on sustainability reporting with the upcoming Omnibus proposal as well as policymakers’ ongoing work to set maximum permitted levels for vitamins and minerals in foods and food supplements.

Following the launch of ESSNA’s EU Manifesto, we will be working with policy makers across Europe to ensure our members’ and consumers’ needs will be on the top of decision makers’ agenda and we look forward to joining forces with USN on this vital work”, Bucchini said.

USN is one of the fastest growing sports nutrition brands in the world, delivering high quality world class nutritional supplements for optimised health and sports performance. The company was founded in 2000 by Albe Geldenhuys with the aim of making effective sports nutrition supplements used by professional and non-professional athletes globally available.

In addition to sports and active nutrition brands like USN, ESSNA represents specialised manufacturers, ingredients suppliers and life sciences organisations in the sector. You can find out more here.
